People who have made a visit to Jimbaran will often remember the good seafood and relaxed atmosphere on a warung at the beach. The Jimbaran village sits just south of the airport in the Teluk Jimbaran bay. On the opposite side of the village are several luxury hotels along the five km long, white beach. This is a good place for swimming, but in contrast to Kuta a little bit further north not for surfing. Jimbaran is nowadays turning into a tourist area in the upper price levels, something that eventually will have great consequences for the small fishing village. |

Just north of Kuta is an unspoiled village and beach called Canggu. If you quickly want to get away from the noisy life on Kuta to a nice beach nearby this may be the place. The beach is known for it's good surfing conditions, but the waves can be large and the currents strong, so in order to take a bath here you should be a good swimmer. This close to the large tourist spots on Bali it a is remarkably laidback and undeveloped place, there are only a few hotels here. The surfers usually gather around a warung at the beach, where they can exchange their experiences. |

Amlapura is the largest city on East Bali and the capital of the Karangasem region. The original name of the city was also Karangasem, but the name was supposedly changed in order to confuse the evil spirits and prevent them from burying the city under volcanic ash. During the eruption of Gunung Agung in 1963 the city became isolated from the rest of Bali for three years, something which did considerable damage for a city that had once been a center of trade. |
