From Jakarta Post today:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peace monitors leave Aceh as province teeters on verge of war

BANDA ACEH, Aceh(JP): - More than 50 international peace monitors withdrew on Monday from Aceh province where a ceasefire in the separatist war is close to collapse.

The group -- 43 Thais, eight Filipinos and one Norwegian -- flew out of Banda Aceh airport aboard a C-130 military aircraft, AFP reported.

David Gorman of the Henry Dunant Centre (HDC), an international mediation group, said the monitors would stay at Medan in neighbouring North Sumatra or in Jakarta for the time being.

Many more troops, with rifles ready, were seen patrolling the provincial capital Banda Aceh on Monday -- the last day of a government deadline for the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) to announce it is shelving its independence demand and will start disarming.

Fresh troops have been pouring into the province in Sumatra island in recent days in expectation of a military offensive.

What evidence can you give us?

I don't know if one should believe you or the INDONESIAN EMMBASSYS and other Indonesian Govenment BIROKATIE.

I'm an Indonesian as well and had find out many possible information conserning the security issue in Aceh and was told that traveling to Aceh has been banned for securuty reasons.

Is one supose to go to Aceh and foolishly believe that they are completely save? Who's going to be responsible if something happened? YOU?

Consider, Consider...... This matter is a serious thing. S E C U R I T Y !!!!!!!!!

Hi scalpel444,
Very interested to read about your involvement in helping in Aceh.
Would you mind emailing me at pamelajoyfuge@hotmail.com and let know how you were able to get involved in such projects.
I will be in Indonesia in June/July next year and hope to be able to get up to Aceh.
Thanking you in advance.  Pamela (Australia).
