Blang Pidi
« on: February 13, 2005, 07:44:57 PM »

Hey there, I was just wondering about something. I was born in a small village in Indonesia called Blang Pidi (I think). How can I get there and where exactly is this village?

Hi Cristopher, I'll been looking around a bit, and all searches for Blang Pidi ends up with a reference to the west coast of Aceh. Looking at the most detailed map I have I find a place called Blangpidie directly west of the Gunung Leuser mountain near the city of Susoh on the west coast of Aceh. Lat 3 deg 45 min North, Long 96 deg 50 min East. I hope this is the same village. I do not know how to get there, maybe some other people who reads this can help? It would be interesting to know more about your story, how come you were born in this village?

The best way to get there is from Medan North Sumatera than heading south to Meulaboh (west Aceh). This better and shorther than through Banda Aceh (capital city of NAD province.

Chris,
you can take a plane from Jakarta to Medan (North Sumatra) or to Banda Aceh (Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam), from either city you can take a bus to the nearby city.

In most cases, you could take a village bus/car to that village. However, at the present situation in Aceh, I am not sure village busses/cars would be available.

Best regards,

DEar Sir;

I am a specialist on Indonesian principalities and Blangpidie is indeed lying in West-Aceh and to be more specific:in the former-Dutch sub-district of Tapatoean(Tapatuan).
When you follow the coastline of West-Aceh you suddenly see the linegoing to the east.In the corner of the bend you see the village/town of Soesoh(Susoh).A little bit to the north lies the village of Blangpedir,or Blang Pidie.BlangPidie was in fact a former pepperarea(like so much Aceh-area outside Aceh Besar),which later was made by the Dutch a sort of principality;although this was a rather little one.The capital,or the residence of the Raja or Uleebalang was Kampong Kutatinggi.
I have some maps of total Aceh and also the history of the principality of Blangpidie.
Your father was a military man,or someone from the Colonial Government.
My father is from Indonesia and I live in the Netherlands now(Vlaardingen).
I have here a list,which states,that Blang Pidie is in the Kabupaten Aceh Selatan and forms a kecamatan(subdistrict)of it's own.I hope this info is still modern enough.
