What is Bintan island like and what about shopping?

Bintan is a large island, twice the size of Batam.  Lagoi on the northern part is a resort area, mainly for Singaporeans who come here to play golf and relax. But the rest of the island is not "touristified" at all, the main attractions are Tanjung Pinang which is the main town, Pulau Penyenget and Trikora Beach on the east coast. There are also several other places you can explore, like Kijang on the south coast. There are no large supermarkets here, you can do some shopping in Tanjung Pinang, but nothing like Singapore.
