Safe travel in Sumba
« on: February 14, 2005, 07:19:36 PM »

HI, I am returning to Sumba in May 2004 for three weeks. How is the current situation in Sumba? What is the general feeling of European travellers and will we be welcome?

Its a possibility we will be visiting Lombok and the Gilli isle, is it safe?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Terrima kassi!

Thanks for the reply! its difficult to get up to date information! I was last travelling through Sumba when the afghanistan war started so i`m hoping things havent changed too much as the people were great then. From what I can make out at the moment sumba and flores seem pretty stable!

Have many people still been travelling through indonesia since the bali bombings? I would expect a few!! maybe its a good time to go!

thanks again

Im living in Bali, everything is okey, but not really sure when we have next election.

About two days ago, in Bali just arnged an ceremony regarding Bali Bombing.

In Kuta I see everything is okey, except several days ago we have some hard wind and some road being repaired due rainy season.

Generally everything is ok.

I was on the beutiful Island of Sumba for just three days.
But I explored at least most of the west side of the Island by car. Stopped at a few villiges, having laughs and shared drinks with the locals. Everyone I met was warm and welcoming, even the muslims even doe I´m westerner and had a few Beers.
It´s a beutiful Island with nice beaches.
I had no problems, but be careful ewerybody wears big Knifes.
